Abstract
As the new wireless technology and its application is rapidly increasing; hence the demand for wireless radio spectrum has considerably increased during the last decade. But there is a problem that the spectrum which is available for use is limited and a great portion of this spectrum is underutilized. The concept of cognitive radio (CR) has been proposed to discuss the issue of spectrum efficiency. This paper focuses on the basic meaning of the term Cognitive Radio, its method of allotting vacant holes to the SUs and the main part is how it will sense that which band is vacant for allotment, for that we have talked about transmitter detection sensing techniques in detail their advantages and drawbacks too.
