Putting it into practice

Abstract

This chapter documents the recent evaluation of a transition program. To align this example with Chapter 5, we use the questions from that chapter as organisers. Despite several challenges associated with COVID-19, the evaluation sought the perspectives of children, families, and educators about their expectations and experiences of the transition to school during 2019-2020. Analysis of narrative data collected by a small team of external researchers identified the importance of relationships in transition, affective/emotional elements of the transition, the perceived effectiveness of transition activities, connections between place and transition, and the importance of rules and routines at school. Recommendations to guide future programs were derived from these results. © 2022 Sue Dockett and Bob Perry.
