Abstract

This paper uses the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm for solving the optimal dynamic dispatch (ODD) problems in power system. Many nonlinear characteristics of the generator, such as valve-point effects and the transmission network loss are considered. To show its feasibility and effectiveness, two different systems are demonstrated and compared to other approaches solving the same problem. Moreover, some parameters in ABC algorithm are analyzed as well as the mechanism in the algorithm. Numerical results show that the ABC algorithm can provide accurate dispatch solutions within reasonable time for certain type of fuel cost functions.
