Abstract
Since 2012, several French universities have offered Master’s degree programs in Creative Writing. The aim of this article is to present these programs and to see the extent to which they have changed one’s approach to literature and have renewed literary studies. Indeed, they consider literature in its « aesthetic use », as a praxis. As such, they represent a turning point in the history of literary studies. Also, they attract new types of students and consider literature as social practice : they explore the way it relates to reality. They help change the place the writer holds, whether it is at university or in the society as a whole. Finally, they have changed one’s approach to research insofar as in these programs, to create is to research, as in the other arts. They take seriously the idea that literature is indeed an art form.
