Abstract
Polarimetric radar imaging is an emerging technology in ground penetrating radar (GPR). This paper presents a study of polarimetric radar imaging with single-input single-output (SISO) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configuration for GPR applications with a focus on infrastructure survey applications. To improve target characterization, we also perform the H-alpha analysis, which is one of the SAR polarimetry processing methods that utilize the alpha and entropy value for terrain classification. The results show that each target shape has different polarization characteristics and fully-polarimetric data is very useful to capture these targets in various shapes and orientations. Several target models also show different H-alpha values. These properties along with the MIMO technology can be used to improve the imaging capability and the interpretation of subsurface targets.
