Abstract

Radiation polymerisation is considered as a technique for preservation in fine art conservation. Radiation grafting and rapid cure procedures are discussed particularly when initiated by UV and EB. Examples of each technique are given for application to paintings, drawings, leather and tapestries. The structure of the monomers and oligomers used is outlined. Conditions under which grafting may be observed during the radiation rapid cure process are shown. Development possibilities are also considered.
