The Nature of Meaning in Music Therapy

Abstract

This interview is the second in a series of interviews that will focus upon the question of meaning in music therapy. In Volume 9(1) we published an interview with Michele Forinash and Kenneth Bruscia continues this series by giving some clearly articulated and thought-provoking statements (see for instance a preliminary response in Even Ruud 's essay in this issue) . The text printed here is revised by Bruscia and based upon the transcript of an interview made with him in November 1999. The interview originally also included a sequence on lAP (Bruscia, 1987, 1994). The lAP-sequence is taken out of this transcript and is instead published on our web Forum, where it is currently under debate. Our intention is to stimulate a discussion of this topic, so please feel free to send us your comments if you want to participate in the continuing dialogue.
