Abstract

Abstract This chapter focuses on the origin, morphological and physiological characteristics, cultivation history, breeding, vegetative propagation methods and molecular genetics and genomics of pistachios (Pistacia vera). The importance of the development of efficient genetic transformation protocols for the genetic improvement of pistachio germplasm is also discussed.
