Workshop: Technical Presentation Skills for STEM Professionals

Abstract

This workshop will teach attendees the best practices of preparing and delivering technical presentations. It will start with best practices of all public speaking such as how to lessen the fear of public speaking; how to develop the presentation opening, body and closing; and how to use gestures, vocal variety, eye contact and body language to engage the audience. This will establish the foundation for technical presentation development and delivery. The workshop then transitions to special considerations for technical public speaking: slide preparation, answering technical questions, and ensuring technical accuracy. All attendees will develop a technical presentation. Selected attendees will deliver their technical presentations which will be evaluated by the attendees and the workshop leader.
