Abstract
The passive radar has a limited number of frequency channels that it can handle and process simultaneously. This number is usually smaller than the number of available illuminators of opportunity that the passive radar could potentially use. The problem is, therefore, how to select transmitters so that optimum performance is obtained. The performance metric considered here is the area where the passive radar can detect the target with a given value of radar cross-section with at least three transmitter-receiver pairs. In the paper, we consider two algorithms for optimal selection of the illuminators of opportunity based on the predicted detection range.
