Abstract

Passive filters have been widely used in the novel power system because of the mature technology and low cost. Two types of high pass filters are popular techniques for harmonic suppression, including second-order high pass filter and C-type filter. However, there is little research to reveal the characteristics of each filter. Designers have difficulties in choosing the optimal topology. Therefore, the paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the two high pass filters, especially the influence of system voltage on the filter cost, and summarizes their optimal application scenarios. The conclusion could be applied to power systems ranging from low voltage levels to high voltage levels, which helps solve the problem of filter topology selection and guides the design of filter packages.
