Abstract

Mobile devices are quickly turning into a key digital platform, changing how individuals gain access to business and individual data. A secured authentication is needed to access business and individual data from mobile devices. The world is turning out to be more connected and all mobile users want to be certain about individual data security. It is necessary and very much important to start looking and investing money into mobile biometric technologies because they are fast becoming the productivity tool of choice. This paper is a review of the acceptance of biometric authentication security technology on mobile devices, from existing literature. New devices are coming with biometric authentication technology but very few studies have tested the acceptance of biometric authentication technology on mobile devices. The results of the conducted studies found four notable challenges associated with mobile biometrics which include acquisition, pre-processing, feature extraction, and template storage. Furthermore, open issues such as hardware limitations, environmental and user-inducted noise, inconsistent data, and balancing transparency were also discovered. It is necessary to further research on the acceptance of biometric authentication technology on mobile devices since most mobile devices are being used for personal and business information use. The research can be used to improve the in-cooperation of biometric authentication technology in mobile devices for ease of use
