The proposed alleviating overload (AOL) method is based on real time network analysis (RTNET), state estimator (SE), real time contingency analysis (RTCA), and the constraint shift factor (CSF) calculation in the energy management system (EMS). RTNET/SE is used to obtain real time data through state estimator and capture the real time data and compute loss sensitivities. RTCA/CSF is used to compute generator shift factors (or sensitivities) for the violated constraints both in base case and outage situations. The network data, loss sensitivities and the shift factors are passed to LMP system for dispatching the units and alleviating the constraints violations.
