Reimagining innovation for “social” entrepreneurship: Nonhuman spaces for the SDGs

Abstract

ABSTRACT Reimagining innovation explores contemporary issues of animal geographies within terrestrial and aquatic landscapes in relation to entrepreneurial ecosystems. Wolves are used to narrate global challenges that keystone species face in human-dominated spaces while sea lions are taken to explore the “social” difference between oceanic and riparian (river) regions. Understanding these issues and the position of human stakeholders presents an opportunity for posthumanist “social” entrepreneurship as an institutional mechanism to frame “support” within entrepreneurial support organizations. Key solutions for entrepreneurial networks examine aspects of policy, economics, and the environment by coadapting business models to address Sustainable Development Goals 14—Life Below Water and 15—Life Above Land. Small and medium-sized enterprises have the potential to rethink innovation toward new world economies by supporting habitat connectivity, ecosystem services, wildlife protections, nonhuman stakeholder models, measures of coexistence, and expanding the notion of what it means to be “entrepreneurial” and “whom” can become it.
