Complications of Students in Eliciting Mathematical Imagination

Abstract

This study aims to determine the obstacles faced by students in eliciting mathematical imagination when solving mathematical problems. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. Subjects in this study consisted of 3 junior high school students, in which the subject was taken by purposive sampling technique. The data collection was done by using observation, testing and interviews. Meanwhile, data analysis techniques used include data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Drawing conclusion is done by triangulation. The triangulation used is the triangulation method. The result of this study are obstacles faced by student in eliciting the ability of mathematical imagination, namely lack of thoroughness and accuracy in giving conclusions to solving mathematical problems, lack of understanding of concepts about the material given, lack of ability to think of alternative answers, apart from solution found (creativity).
