Abstract
In many industrial operations are flows of immiscible liquids flowing simultaneously from a single duct. We present an analytical study of the behavior of fully developed laminar flow of immiscible fluids (water-oil) in flat plates and circular ducts. The system used is the “Core Flow Lift”, which adds to the flow of oil to a lower viscosity fluid in the form of an annular outer layer (water), which considerably reduces the flow resistance, with a gain on the pumping power compared with single phase flow of oil. This process is easy to use, low cost and high performance, enabling high flow rates, and is already being successfully used in long distance transport in some plants overseas. Physical situations of flow between parallel flat plates and circular duct, are applied in industry, and are the most studied in the literature of fluid mechanics. Key-words: Laminar flow, circular ducts; flat parallel plates; immiscible fluids.
