The purpose of this study is to describe the tradition of prohibiting ngalor-ngulon marriage, to analyze the motives of the causes and goals of the family in using the tradition of prohibiting ngalor-ngulon marriage. The theory used in this research is the theory of phenomenology because motive and in order to motive which were initiated by Alfred Schutz. The theory is used as an analysis in answering the problem formulation. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach proposed by Alfred Schutz. Data collection in this study was carried out by means of observation, interviews, and literature studies. The results of this study indicate that the socialization of the tradition of prohibiting ngalor-ngulon marriage is carried out by primary and secondary socialization agents, namely the family and the surrounding environment. The motive underlying the families in Sukorejo Village using the ngalor-ngulon tradition is a sense of respect for the traditional values ​​inherited from their ancestors, believing in the truth of the tradition, and being in the Javanese community. Abstract

The article is the result of research on the phenomenology of the tradition of prohibing marriage from ngalor-ngulon.
