As wavelength converters are costlier devices, fully equipping the networks with wavelength converters make it highly expensive. Thus we have compared the spare capacity, in terms of route km of fiber length required, for providing p-cycle protection by placing wavelength converters at some node positions. We have also introduced optimum position for placement of converters at high traversing (HT) nodes.
