Abstract

The current technological developments, especially with regard to issues of control and automation, make the teaching of these subjects to gain a great importance in the educational institutions. However the traditional method limits students' access to this knowledge, especially the high cost of acquisition and maintenance of equipment, making the contact of students with these issues almost theoretical. But as an alternative to this problem have been developed educational robotics kits, which can be divided into two main types: proprietary kits, which are closed to change students acquisition cost and still high by the standards of teaching, and kits free, which can be constructed by the students themselves, and suit the needs of each institution. This paper seeks to make a comparative analysis of the characteristics of robotics kits and free of the owners, emphasizing that the technical characteristics have directly influence on the cost and applicability on education. Key-words: Educational Robotics, Lego Mindstorm, Robotics Kits.
