FROM EARLY GOGOL TO LATER: THE WAY OF THE BAROQUE

Abstract

The Gogol’s comedies “The Government Inspector” (1836) and «The Denouement of “The Government Inspector” (1846) were several times sized with the baroque sameness between the social and the spiritual. Meanwhile the finale of The Denouement had assumed the necessity for the material world to transfigure itself into the spiritual one. In the late Gogol’s journalism was declared as the total Russian’s mission. This motive comes from the early Gogol’s prose, where the Nature and the people are constantly denoted through their essential and therefore predicative feature. Signification regularly and openly presents itself as transformation. This suggests that the world-view of early Gogol was not only and not so much overcome by his late baroque religious poetics as morphologically preparing it.
