Abstract
With the advent of non-conventional energy sources like solar, wind and biomass bidirectional power and energy flow between the consumers of electrical energy and the conventional grid has become significant due to ever increasing demand of energy. It not only allows the consumers to consume its generated energy, but also paves path to feed the excess of it to the grid. These type of energy users are called prosumers. During any instant of time if the energy generated by the prosumers is in excess, then the export of surplus power to the grid will give rise to net metering and consumer will get some rebate in tariff. To record the power flow from the conventional grid to the prosumers and vice-versa bi-directional energy meters are used. This paper aims in development of bidirectional energy meter using phasor measurement concept. The study also results in analysis of both reactive and active power components where minimization of cost of reactive power consumption is proposed. The entire analysis is modelled in Lab-VIEW to prove the efficacy of results.
