Evolution of PKI ecosystem

Abstract

Technologies get introduced, adapted and fade away after their time. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) got introduced as a technology for establishing trust over an insecure electronic medium, but over a time span of 20+ years, it has evolved as a reliable and de-facto ecosystem for establishing trust-worthy systems. The components that makeup the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) ecosystem today, their strengths and weaknesses, and the emerging technology trends are discussed.
