Abstract
A mobile healthcare system using the Android-based smartphone is successfully implemented in the IP-based wireless sensor networks with the help of the IPv6 technique. The IP-based wireless sensor networks provide a wide range of effective, comprehensive, and convenient healthcare services through the internet or external IP-enabled networks to the IP node via the gateway according to the concept of IPv6 over low-power wireless personal area networks (6LoWPAN). In addition, the Android-based smartphone used by patients and doctors at the end of the networks in real-time displays the recorded biomedical signals as well as information of health conditions. Based on these results from practical experiments, the estimations of patient's health condition are processed by using the heart rate variability analysis in time and frequency domains under the normal and stressed states. In addition, the monitoring application on the smartphone provides useful information such as the waveforms of the 100-Hz ECG signal and 75-Hz PPG signal, sensor type, data bytes, the IPv6 address, and health features.
