Abstract

We report a rigorous electromagnetic study of the grating excitation of a far infrared electromagnetic surface wave. We get a surprising result: it exists an optimum groove depth for which the intensity of the surface wave is maximum. The dispersion curve and broadening of the resonance when the groove depth is increased are studied in detail.
