Abstract

1. The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) announced today that it will help develop and validate Project Safe Hands in the National University Hospital and Changi General Hospital next year to address hospitalacquired infections (HAIs). These infections, which include pneumonia and sepsis infection, can lead to death in more severe cases. The HAIs are a major global healthcare problem affecting millions of people around the world . According to the 2nd World HAI Forum in 2009, there are about 7 million cases of HAIs in the United States and Europe each year. The HAIs are most prevalent in the Eastern Mediterranean and South-east Asian regions.
