Himmler of the Andes

Abstract

This chapter is a pre-coup biography of Manuel Contreras, who, as the leader of the Directorate of National Intelligence, later orders the assassination of Letelier. Contreras hails from the Germanized south of Chile, which has long harboured pro-fascists. He rises through the ranks of the Chilean military as not only a brilliant tactician but also a blood-curdling sociopath obsessed with anti-communism.
