Abstract

THIS STUDy ExpLORES THE CONFLICT BETWEEN THE ROLES OF OppRES-SOR and oppressed in the context of the jungle recreated in Horacio quiroga’s El Salvaje , a 1919 collection of short stories. In order to analyze how said conflict presents itself, I explore the different manifestations of power affecting the oppressor-oppressed relation, which is in turn related to the ideology privileged in each story (capitalist, anti-capitalist, socialist). Consequently, this is a study of power and of its link to a given ideological posture as constituting one of the key organizing principles of the collection of short stories in question.
