Roadmap Toward a Network Infrastructure for Public Safety and Security

Abstract

Mobile based broadband network systems are dynamic and ever‐evolving, requiring an element of a quick resolution to keep pace. Efforts to bring on board public safety and security systems are not just aimed at addressing voice communication systems and the ability to send short message systems but to reimage the whole concept as well. The chapter addresses the important security features of the terrestrial trunked radio network. The United Kingdom began implementing Emergency Services Network with the strategic aim of delivering better services and voice data to the emergency services. SafeNet is the ambitious creation of South Korea that aims to create a public safety network on the commercial long term evolution (LTE) infrastructure. The fifth generation technology aims at transforming the wireless network infrastructure with a clustered network of small cells that employ speeds currently unattainable with 4G LTE technology.
