Abstract

This paper describes a new control system being installed at JET, which is designed to stabilise the m=2, n=1 tearing modes by magnetic feedback. After reviewing the principles of the stabilisation, the results of the system analysis are presented. The uncertainty, complexity and variability of the plasma model suggest the use of a flexible digital controller. To obtain fast responses a processor formed by a cluster of four TMS320C40s will be used.
