Abstract
Summary form only given. A program to develop a 100 kW power level, continuous wave (cw), 95 GHz gyrotron oscillator for use in a U.S. military system is currently underway at CPI. To date, three W-band gyrotron oscillators have been constructed and demonstrated. The third of the three gyrotrons developed for the program, which showed significant performance improvements over the first two, demonstrated 115 kW total output power for 43 kV cathode-to-collector voltage, 50 kV total accelerating voltage, and 4.8 A beam current for an efficiency of 56%. Pulses up to 18 minutes in duration, significantly beyond the required 6 minute pulse required by the program, were demonstrated at the 115 kW operating point.
