Abstract
The wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is an advancing technology, with many real time applications. It mainly performs three tasks which are sensing, processing and communication. In WSN, a network is created by deploying many nodes in the region where physical conditions such as pressure, temperature, humidity etc. are to be measured. Ideally, the energy consumption by sensor must be minimum with low maintenance and network lifetime must be maximum. Routing, thus becomes the most important subject to be discussed. In this paper, hierarchical routing with the idea of clustering like LEACH, HEED, SEP & DEEC have been discussed and compared. The work provides a theoretical outline of these protocols as per application point of view.
