Conditions and design examples for instantaneous and simultaneous switching of filter banks

Abstract

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for instantaneous and simultaneous switching of analysis and synthesis filter banks in subband-coding systems. By means of a design example we show that under this condition sets of filter banks can be found that-within a set-can be interchanged randomly, and hence can be used for simultaneous and instantaneous switching.
