Abstract
The paper investigates a compact single band microstrip patch antenna resonator at 2.4 GHz incorporated with left-handed double negative (DNG) metamaterial. The proposed antenna utilizes a layer of (3 × 4) metamaterial unit cells structure in the height of 15 mm from the antenna. The implementation of DNG which has unique properties enhances the performance of the antenna. Overall, the designed antenna offers more concentrated beam-width, improved bandwidth and gain up to 6% and 18% respectively. Hence, a comprehensive comparison of the designed rectangular likely shape patch antenna with and without using metamaterial is also featured in this paper.
