Abstract

The integration of ICTs within electric energy companies has helped to facilitate communication between different sites of the electricity grids and the optimization of the electricity supply chain as well as a remote control. Despite the advantages these technologies offer within electric energy systems, they have exposed electricity grids so much to vulnerabilities, considerably increasing the risks of cyber threats in recent years. However, IT security for the electricity grids of electric energy companies is becoming important. The cyber-attacks that have affected electric energy companies around the world, the different techniques used by cyber attackers, and the approaches to strengthen the security of the electricity grids from cyber threats were presented.
