Abstract
The requirements of today's modern drive techniques are mainly met by the application of converter-driven low-voltage induction motors. Fast switching inside the converter creates traveling waves in the cables between the converter and the motor. The hereby occurring voltage loads strongly harm the winding insulation, which may result in a premature failure. Partial discharge measurements and long-term tests were carried out with an improved insulation system, which is introduced in the paper.
