Given this emphasis upon a single type of room the widespread commitment to the lecture method is perhaps a little easier to understand. What is surprising is that it has only been in comparatively recent times that much research has been undertaken to try and ascertain the factors associated with effective, and ineffective, lectur ing. The focus has tended to be upon either the purpose of lecturing or alternative forms of lecture organization.
