Abstract
Wind energy conversion system (WECS) is an emerging trend in energy sector. It is why because of its advantages like non-polluting nature, high efficiency and low running cost. A direct driven Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator with a wind turbine yields maximum power from the system over all other type of generators due to its high power density and less losses. But when a fault condition occurs WECS can't have fault ride through capability also causes power quality issues which are adversely affect both transmission and distribution side of the system. This paper deals with the load side fault tolerant condition of a permanent magnet synchronous generator based WECS with FACTS device mainly Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) and proposes a Frequency Oscillation Damping (FOD) controller for FACTS controller which has the ability to withstand all the fault conditions that are taken into consideration. This paper will look at a FACTS controller able to achieve fault tolerant conditions.
