This research is a quantitative research. The method used is descriptive quantitative analysis by collecting data through essay questions that have been adapted to indicators of concept understanding. The population in this study were all students of class XI Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Pekanbaru with a total of 257 students while the sample in this study amounted to 66 respondents using purposive sampling technique. The data obtained is then processed for analysis. The results of the analysis prove that students' conceptual understanding is included in the low category. That is, special attention is needed from the teacher so that students' understanding of the concept becomes better. The Translation indicator is only 46.8%, while the Interpretation indicator is only 34.3%, and the Extrapolation indicator is only 18.9%.
