Abstract

In multimedia cellular CDMA networks, different receive power levels are set based not only on different user requirements such as data rate and bit error rate but also on interference from other cells - this phenomenon is referred to as receive power control (RPC). We investigate how dynamic base station assignment (DBSA) can be used to adjust RPC (i.e., DRPC). It is shown that DBSA coupled with DRPC can improve the system performance in terms of minimizing total mobile transmit power. In effect, the above approach attempts to operate the wireless network approximately with equal total received power. Numerical results are presented to show the advantage of using DRPC.
