Abstract

The article examines the implications of using light for the wiring functions within electronics processors, starting from the simple point-to-point fibre interconnect and following through to the 'all optical' computer and optical 'neural network'. In so doing, the strengths and weaknesses of optics are highlighted and some of the problems and opportunities established
