Abstract

The choice of the best locations for reactive power compensation should be made taking into account the performance of the grid from the point of view of voltage regulation for normal and contingency grid operation, and other parameters such as SCR (Short Circuit Ratio). The elevation of the SCR helps to make the grid less weak, thus improving system performance, which influences the performance of some elements such as wind turbines and HVDC converters. The objective of this work is to find the optimal location for reactive power compensation in weak systems, when the new generation of reactive support alone is not enough. The algorithm is based on exhaustive enumeration optimization method.
