The distribution of corrective duties in optical instruments

Abstract

The conditions which should be satisfied by the components of a complex system are determined in a convenient form in terms of the aberrational conditions which the complete instrument has to satisfy. The use of the method evolved is illustrated by a lens of three elements such as the "Cooke" photographic lens.
