Experimental Research on the Monosyllabic Tones of Hedong Dialect in Dunhuang

Abstract

Hedong dialect in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, is one of the representatives of Central Plains Mandarin. This paper mainly use experimental phonetic method to study the monosyllabic tones of Hedong dialect. In this paper, the old male and the young male are chosen as the pronunciators. Firstly, the rules of tone evolution of the old male and the young male is analyzed through experiments. Then, the tone height and length patterns of the old male and the young male are constructed. Finally, the differences between the old male and the young male in Hedong dialect are compared with the results of previous studies.
