Abstract
It has been substantiated that the attention to certain aspects of recognition of prior learning (RPL) in higher education is not the key to its success, it is necessary to ensure strategic planning and implementation of this process in accordance with the concept of life-long learning. The lack of Ukrainian practice is that the non-formal and informal education is not quite clear regulated in Ukraine in general and is not regulated in the Law of Ukraine “On the Higher Education”. It is grounded that it is important that access policies, admission processes and criteria in RPL are implemented consistently and in a transparent manner. It has been proved that the stakeholder involvement, especially in technical education, is very important for effective RPL mechanism and the needs of a wide range of stakeholders must be taken into account: external (potential employers in the region) and internal (students of a specific specialty). The main key points that will help improve RPL process in HEIs of Ukraine taking into account European and international best practice have been elaborated.
