Abstract

Proper management of the technical documentation supplied to plants or with plant components, achieves high levels of efficiency and safety with respect to all the actions taken during the various phases of the product's life. The high complexity of technological systems in modern plants requires not only abandonment of paper-based documentation but also opting for a new generation of information technology, making it possible to recognize a particular device or component, and to access all its construction, management and maintenance history, simply approaching it with a portable terminal. The technology known as RFID allows users to generate virtual document pockets which anybody acting on the component, from designers to manufacturers, technicians and owners can access. This makes it possible to implement construction and maintenance programmes to minimize errors and extend the life of the product considerably thanks to maintenance operations related to the real state of the object.
