Abstract

The concept of economic growth is highly significant for the profiles of countries. When it comes to the development level of a country, the economic structure of that country is also among the elements taken into consideration. While determining the development levels of countries, some demographic, geographical, social and cultural improvements have an effect besides the economic structure. Democracy is also among the factors that affect the development level of countries. Whether the existence of political rights or civil freedom, that is democracy, affects the level of development of a country which has been discussed in many studies, articles and books so far. While some of these studies show that democracy has a positive effect on economic growth, some have suggested that democracy affects economic growth in a negative way. In addition to these, some studies have concluded that the impact of democracy on economic growth of countries is neutral.
