In this paper, an LDPC decoder architecture based on a publicly available MIPS processor core associated with a homogeneous matrix of processing units is presented. The proposed architecture corresponds to an intermediate approach between the creation of an new application specific instruction set processor and a fully dedicated decoder. The design and the FPGA prototyping of the resultant architectures are thus described.
