Abstract

In her review, the author analyses the Letters 1890–1925 between Stefan Żeromski and Zygmunt Wasilewski, where the literary, social, and national dialogue between both writers constitutes an important part of the epistolary heritage of the author of Przedwiośnie (The Spring to Come). Thanks to the double voice, the review reveals the intertwined threads that concern not only personal matters, but also the history of Polish literature, journalism, widely understood culture, and social and political life. At the same time, it meets the criteria for scientific edition, presenting a valuable source research material that enriches the resources of Polish epistolography. As a result of the commitment of the Kielce academic and museum community to the preservation and popularisation of Żeromski’s literary legacy and surviving documents, he is probably one of the few Polish writers whose entire literary legacy has lived to see a critical edition.
