Abstract

Based on analyzing the traditional wind power smoothing control method using the rotor inertia, this paper proposes a new power smoothing control strategy based on the kinetic energy by adopting the low-pass filter. The model of the direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind energy conversion system (WECS) is built based on Matlab/Simulink. The proposed low-pass filter based kinetic energy control strategy is compared with the traditional strategy in the simulation. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed power smoothing method.
