Abstract

In 2010, the Joint Space Communication Layer (JSCL) Initial Capabilities Document (ICD) projected the capacity for MILSATCOM communication in a contested environment to increase significantly in the 2020-2025 timeframe beyond what current programs of record will provide. To address this shortfall and affordability concerns, the US Air Force initiated the Protected Military Satellite Communication (MILSATCOM) Design for Affordability Risk Reduction's (DFARR) effort to develop and demonstrate key elements of a future protected tactical MILSATCOM enterprise. The results of the MILSATCOM DFARR will support Analysis of Alternatives activities and eventual development of an affordable family of systems to provide Protected Tactical Service (PTS).
